In September 2012, Ghana Japan Oil Co. Ltd., in collaboration with Toyota Home Ltd. of Japan, completed a groundbreaking prototype housing project in Okponglo, Accra — a two-unit semi-detached townhouse built from foundation to completion in just 14 days. Conceived under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat, the project served as a proof of concept for the rapid construction of housing units for Ghana’s security services. The fully fitted homes, featuring three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a modern kitchen, showcased the precision and efficiency of Japanese prefabricated technology adapted to local conditions. This initiative marked an important step in demonstrating how advanced building systems can meet Ghana’s urgent housing needs through innovation, speed, and quality craftsmanship.
